Photographed @ The Rock Fort Temple, Trichy

From the outside, the gopuram, or entrance tower, of this great temple…was a massive twelve-story trapezoid of intricately sculpted figures…There were figures clothed and naked, figures sitting and standing, with human shapes and animal, realistic and utterly fantastic. There were figures dancing, on horseback, making love, strumming instruments – a full panoply of human activity, densely realized in stone.
